The Townhouse is definitely the "dress to impress" spot in New York. It's a gay cocktail lounge with three bars (including a piano room with nightly performances) and a dress code. Lots of beautifully cut suits and tasteful neckwear are on display. The downside of this is that the atmosphere tends to be competitive, rather than friendly. There are a lot of guys cruising, or maybe just posing. A discreet sign at the entrance requests that solicitations for money be reported to the management. The fact that they need the sign says something; be careful. Best before 1AM if you want to meet a nice guy.
