Announcements: Offline Days
Posted May 02, 2022 10:44AM EDT
I've been updating our Patreon members on what's been happening with me, and thought I should post a quick note to bring everyone up to speed.
After my partner died in February, I moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It was sudden, but there was nothing keeping me in Maryland, and I took advantage when a furnished apartment became available the first of March. I lived there for two months, and bought a house last Wednesday.
It's an odd place, with character bordering on — and sometimes tipping into — eccentricity. It needs a great deal of planning and work, and will be a fun project and, in the end, a welcoming get-a-way for friends visiting FL. Most importantly, the cat's happy to have his own yard again.
All of which is to say I've been offline more than usual. Settling Al's affairs, moving, setting up house, looking at and bidding on houses, moving again, tearing down a wall… Life's been further up in the air than usual. We've been maintaining OlderGay.Men, but not fixing the glaring bugs or adding anything new. I have a bed now. And groceries. And pans to cook them and plates to hold the results. The days are inching back to an ordinary routine, and I'll re-introduce OGM chores alongside window shopping (for windows). Hope you've all been well. As always, let us know if we can do anything for you.

Congratulations on Fort Lauderdale Florida. My understanding is that there’s quite active Prime Timers there plus the other gay events and venues available in the region and close by.
I have an elderly female relative living there who i visit on occasion but attending to her precludes my dating or visits to gay venues.

What a sad message Jeff,
I never read much on OGM but lately I do that more often and that’s why I only now come across this message. Reading your story and seeing the photos and videos I think he must have had a happy final chapter with you. How wonderful that must have been. You know that the day will come when you’ll have to go on alone (that goes for me with my husband too) and that’s why it’s always important to consciously enjoy each day so that you can look back on the beautiful memories you had together.
I wish you good luck with your new chapter and I can imagine that you sometimes want to flip back to the previous one. Greetings and strength.

Jeff, I am so sorry for what you are going through. Having lost my partner of 30 years, I know that adapting and adjusting to this new life isn’t at all easy. I am glad to hear that you are moving into my neighborhood! There is a lot of support here in Fort Lauderdale along with some great options for connecting with other men. Please reach out if there is any way that I can help you, I’m glad to do so.
Naked hugs,
Dave

Great, @Loren_A_Olson_MD_Awa! Let us know, looking forward to seeing you here. Check with Prime Gentlemen and SAGE; I’m sure either or both would be happy to have you speak at a meeting. Safe travels.

Thanks so much, @Gerbrand. Yes, we had wonderful years together with no regrets. I’m especially glad that we traveled so much before COVID hit, then were content at home with each other. Please enjoy all the time you have; you’ll cherish it the rest of your days.
