This low-key landmark bar has a devoted longtime clientele of mature men and some younger men who are looking to see if any of those "mature men" may be interested in a "younger man" for the evening!

First opened as a grocery store in 1840, then as a bar in 1864, today it’s one of the city’s oldest gay bars. It’s intimate and relaxed, and everyone seems to know everyone. If you order one of their delicious burgers, you can eat it while looking at the outside sights from a nearby window (or looking at the inside sights, which can be just as interesting!). A pool table and a jukebox are available, and the interior is like a comfortable den in a lodge, with the same wood tones and warm feeling.

New York’s oldest Gay bar and Greenwich Village’s oldest bar.
