Village Hearth Cohousing is an LGBTQ+-focused 55+ community in Durham, NC, with 15 acres of wooded land just 15 minutes from downtown Durham. We are gay and straight, single and coupled, working and retired, from Durham and beyond, and we represent a variety of professions, skills, and interests. We are LGBTQIA+ people, friends, and allies sharing a caring community. We have the privacy of our own right-sized, sustainable homes and the company of a close-knit and mutually supportive group of neighbors.

Cohousing is collaborative. Our community reflects our values and priorities. It is self-designed, self-developed, and self-managed. Our neighborhood is made up of 28 single-story fully equipped homes, with inviting front porches and individual back yards. The homes cluster around the common house, leaving almost ten acres for natural open spaces, gardens, and outdoor activities. Universal design with wide doorways, roll-in showers, and gentle grades throughout ensures our entire community is accessible to everyone. The central green space, the common house, the gardens, and the workshop offer plentiful opportunities for connection, creativity, exercise, and fun. Our common house has a large gourmet kitchen, a multi-purpose dining room, office, laundry, exercise room, guest suite, sitting/game room, and sewing/craft room.

Policies are agreed on by members of the community. We are a non-smoking community. Your pets are welcome.
