Opened in 1972, it served as a safe haven during eras when being openly gay was socially and legally difficult. It has survived the AIDS crisis and remains a "sacred trust" for the local community. Originally located at Monroe and Fulton, it moved to its current Sheldon Avenue location in 1988.
The establishment has a long history of LGBTQ+ ownership, ensuring the mission of providing a safe space remains the top priority.
The bar features a "Rainbow Road" mural outside and regularly hosts Pride-themed events, including a massive annual Pride Block Party.
They host regular events tailored to the community, such as "Karaoke-KiKi Mondays" and drag-related activities.
Apartment Lounge is described as a "quiet, gay pub-style bar" during the day that transforms into a high-energy social hub at night.
