Email Redux

Posted May 19, 2020 3:07PM UTC

So I shouldn't have been so sanguine about the restoration of our email service. I got on the phone with our provider this morning, and we believe it's really, honestly fixed this time.

Not being able to send mail leads to many failures you might not connect to it: When you send a message to another member, the site tries to email them to let them know about it. When you reset your password, it tries to email you for confirmation. Etc. If you've been getting odd errors the last couple of days, try again now and let us know if you're still running into dead ends.

Stay safe, have a great week!
Jeff

Email Outage

Posted May 16, 2020 4:48PM UTC

Our email delivery provider suffered a data breach and locked us out of our account until we changed our password. We should be OK now. I'm sorry for any mail that failed to send between the time they locked us out last night and when I got their message this morning.

🦸‍♂️ M.I.A.

It's been a few weeks since I posted here. In addition to the quarantine anxiety and depression we're all feeling, I had my DSL down for a few days and spent a few more in bed with a bug – thankfull...

"Shandi"

Posted May 11, 2020 10:17PM UTC

We've been plagued the last few days by spammers creating fake accounts with variations on the name "Shandi". On the bright side, they haven't bothered to see what our site is about – they're using their standard ploy of posing as young women, so they're unlikely to take anyone in here. 😄

Still, it never hurts to remind everyone to be careful about your personal information, including your email address. Don't share anything with anyone unless you're as sure as you can be about them.

Stay safe,
Jeff

This has been a week of working behind the scenes, ironing out problems and fiddling under the hood. One ongoing benefit is that two new helpers are up-to-speed and we're moving to a new customer su...

Checking In

Posted Apr 16, 2020 10:39PM UTC

Paul has started a thread where you can share how things are going with you during the COVID shutdown:

One silver lining in this ordeal is that we can be here to support and check in on one another. I hope you're all still staying safe and getting what you need. Let's keep each other company until we can crawl out of our caves again.

Frightening Times

Posted Mar 19, 2020 2:44PM UTC

I hope everyone's following precautions, staying safe, and lending a hand where you can. I opened a topic on our discussion forum for anyone who wants to share news (news, not rumors; please be responsible), seek advice, or just talk to someone about how things are going.

I'm sure it's obvious, but everything on our events page should be considered tentative pending further updates. In particular, I don't imagine the cruises will be happening. We've reached out to the organizers and will take them down if we get confirmation. I hope we can all get together again soon, but let's do what we need to do in the meantime to make sure we're still here when the time comes.

Stay strong, hang in there,
Jeff
